Choi Jin-young

Author of «To the Warm Horizon»

Choi Jin-young was born in Seoul in 1981. She began writing while still in school and later studied Korean Language and Literature at university. She made her literary debut in 2006, receiving the Young Writers Award from the literary magazine «Literature and Practice». Her breakthrough came in 2010, when her debut novel «The Name of the Girl Who Brushed Past You Is..». won the prestigious Hankyoreh Literary Award. She later received the Shin Dong-yup Literary Prize (2014), the Baek Shin-ae Literary Award (2020), and the Manhae Prize (2020).

Since the beginning of her literary career, Choi Jin-young has published more than fifteen books, including novels, short story collections, and works of nonfiction. Her writing explores themes of loneliness, violence, memory, love, loss, and human solidarity, while her characters often find themselves on the brink of both personal and societal catastrophe.

Her novel «To the Warm Horizon» has become one of her best-known works outside Korea. This post-apocalyptic story of survival, love, and mutual support in a frozen world has been translated into numerous languages and has earned the author international recognition. Today, Choi Jin-young is widely regarded as one of the leading voices of the new generation of Korean literature.
