What do we know about Islam—one of the world’s major religions, which spans vast territories and whose influence continues to grow?
The richly illustrated encyclopedic edition Atlas of the Islamic Culture features 75 original maps and presents a comprehensive worldview of Islam—its beliefs, traditions, institutions, its place among world cultures, and its historical roots. It is a unique guide to understanding the essence of Islam and its formative influence on cultures from the Mediterranean to the Pacific Ocean, as well as on Islamic heritage in art, science, law, politics, and philosophy.
This is the work of distinguished scholars Ismail and Lois Lamya al-Faruqi. Ismail Raji al-Faruqi was one of the world’s most prominent experts in Islamic studies. He was born in Palestine in 1921 and earned a doctorate in philosophy from Indiana University. Lois Lamya al-Faruqi received a PhD in Islamic studies from Syracuse University. She was an expert in Islamic art and music. In a planned attack by intruders, the al-Faruqi couple were murdered in their home in Pennsylvania (USA) in 1986.
